In honor of Kirby- the dog who started it all…
I was in college when I got my first dog- a Labrador Retriever puppy I named Kirby. Sadly he had epilepsy and his seizures began when he was just 5 months old. I spent a lot of time working with veterinarians to figure out what might be wrong with him and a lot more time trying to figure out how to control his seizures. Unfortunately, despite everyone’s efforts, we were unable to adequately control his seizures and he died at only four and half years old from complications of his disease. In those four short years I discovered the world of pure bred dogs and competition obedience (we earned a novice obedience title). I also developed a strong interest in veterinary medicine. We had met some wonderful Veterinarians during our battle with his disease. After losing him I decided to follow in their path, and I pursued my degree in Veterinary Medicine; to try and help others with their pets as they had helped us. Eventually that path led me to the open Kirby Veterinary Hospital. ~ Dr. Wendy C. Ernst
